The elected office of Attorney General for the District of Columbia was created through a referendum approved by the voters at the November 2010 General Election. "The Elected Attorney General Charter Amendment" was passed by the Council. It gives the Attorney General charge and conduct of all law business of the District of Columbia. An individual elected to the partisan office shall serve a 4-year term to coincide with the term of the office of Mayor.
