Other #DCision14 news

TENAC is having a candidate forum for mayoral and council candidates October 15 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Charles Sumner Museum School (1201 17th St NW).   TENAC members will "ask the tough questions to save rent control and keep DC affordable."

The members of DC NOW, the District's chapter of the National Organization for Women, endorsed the following candidates in the November general: Muriel Bowser (mayor), Elissa Silverman (At-large), Brianne Nadeau (Ward 1), and Lateefah Williams (AG).   Earlier this year, DC NOW endorsed a number of candidates for the primary.   These candidates have also received support for the general.

  • Councilmember Anita Bonds for one of the At-Large Council seats
  • Councilmember Mary Cheh for the Ward 3 Council seat
  • Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie for the Ward 5 Council seat
  • Charles Allen for the Ward 6 Council seat
  • Council Chair Phil Mendelson for Council Chair

Candidates & Commentators Discuss DC Mayors Race Sept. 24

From Citizens Association of Georgetown:
Fall CAG Meeting Wednesday, September 24, at Dumbarton House

Candidates & Commentators Discuss DC Mayors Race

The Citizens Association of Georgetown's September 24th meeting will feature a panel of commentators talking about the upcoming race for DC mayor. Candidates Muriel Bowser, David Catania and Carol Schwartz have been invited and the media representatives will be Topher Mathews of The Georgetown Metropolitan, Davis Kennedy, publisher of The Current Newspapers, and Robert Devaney, Editor of The Georgetowner.

Additionally, the candidates for the only contested seat on our Advisory Neighborhood Commission, Ellie Budic and Dr. Monica L. Roache`, will give brief presentations about their qualifications and concerns regarding single member district ANC2E07 - which is northeast Georgetown.

Because we know that Carol Schwartz can't attend and we have not heard definitively from David Catania or Muriel Bowser, our very savvy media panelists will be discussing their views of the race and candidates.

Please join us for a far-ranging and informative discussion at Dumbarton House, 2715 Q Street, which is generously hosting our meeting in the stunning ballroom. Please come for the reception, with refreshments provided by The Daily Grill and Towne Wine and Liquors, at 7, followed by the lively panel discussion starting promptly at 7:30; ending at 8:30.

DC AT-LARGE & ATTORNEY GENERAL INTERVIEWS SCHEDULED
(9/3/2014) The D.C. COPE will interview and make recommendations for endorsements of candidates running for the Independent At-Large seat on the D.C. Council, Wednesday, September 10. The next day, Thursday, September 11, the D.C. COPE will interview and make recommendations of candidates running for the position of the first elected Attorney General of the District of Columbia. Get the 411 on ANC candidates in Ward 3

Tenleytown, D.C. recently shared info about ANC candidates in Get to Know Your ANC Candidates: ANC 3E-01.   The website presents information about Candidates for ANC 3E-01 Kathleen Sweetapple and Anne Wallace.

This post follows up on an earlier post entitled Serious Competition for ANC 3E Seats This November.   Why the most local of elections are important:

When most District residents think about this November’s election, they think about who the next mayor will be or the race for Washington’s first elected Attorney General. Those and other citywide races are important for the direction our city will take in the next four years. Voters should learn more about the candidates and consider carefully for whom they will vote.

However, here at Tenleytown, D.C. we are also looking a bit closer to home as the five seats on our Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC), which represents AU Park, Friendship Heights, and Tenleytown, are up for grabs this fall. ANCs have the closest ties to local communities and are elected to represent directly neighborhood interests.

ANC 3E commissioners have played significant roles in shaping the development of the Wisconsin Avenue corridor; representing local interests in the expansion, renovation, and boundaries of Janney, Alice Deal, and Woodrow Wilson schools; addressing issues of livability, walkability, and transportation; managing relationships between businesses and residents; and responding to District government and agencies’ policy proposals that impact the area in which we live.
